What does a typical day at Babel Fish look like?
You can have a look at some sample timetables here:
Do you provide airport/train station transfers?
Yes, we do! We can pick you up from Newquay Airport, Train and Bus Station as well as Exeter or Bristol Airport. We charge for this service and you can find the cost on our Prices page.
Is Newquay safe?
Newquay is fairly safe. It is a small town with approximately 30,000 people. It is busy in the summer months with tourists, but still nothing like a big city.
Do you offer discounts for multiple people or longer stays?
Yes we do! Please contact us and ask about discounts.
What happens if there are no waves for surfing?
There is always something to do! We might watch a surfing film or documentary talking about how certain manoeuvres are executed. This is a great way to learn a new language too. We might go out on an excursion such as Lanhydrock House or to Truro, or play another sport instead.
Are surfboards and wetsuits included?
Yes, all equipment is provided. However, if you have your own and you want to bring it out with you, that’s no problem at all.
Should I get travel insurance?
We recommend that anyone travelling gets themselves travel insurance. We do not organise this, but there are plenty of easy and cheap options. You never need it until you do!
What if I’m vegetarian, vegan or have a food allergy?
It’s not a problem. We have plenty of host families who are vegetarian themselves or are more than happy to cater for specific diets. Just make sure you let us know on the booking form so that we know in advance. Newquay has plenty of great places to eat that cater for all diets.
Will I need to take public transport to get to school?
No, you won’t. Most of our host families are within walking distance to the school. Some families are just outside of Newquay and the host family will drop you off in the morning and pick you up at the end of the day.
