Our English and Surfing course for Adults at Babel Fish combines English Language classes with surf coaching.
  • Surf and Study was why we started our language school – our passion is teaching English and surfing in Cornwall.
  • We are the only school in the UK who can run this programme for adults who are interested in surf progression as well as improving their English – as we’re the only school whose teachers are also surf coaches. 
  • Expect engaging lessons, passionate teachers, and knowledgable local surfers who will guide your progression in your language ability – and your surfing.

English and Surfing - Course Structure

English Classes will be at Babel Fish HQ each morning, followed by lunch - then surf coaching at a Newquay break each afternoon.
All equipment is provided, but you're welcome to bring your own board.
We've a combined 40+ years of local knowledge about which beaches are best at certain tides and conditions, mean that you will be getting the best guidance and coaching.
We know about surfing in Cornwall.
Progressing or learning to surf with the same dedicated coach (as far as possible!), quickens your progress and perfects your technique.

Surfing in Cornwall

Cornwall is one of the best places in the world to learn to surf:

  • The Continental Shelf slows the swell down which allows more time for beginner surfers to catch a wave and get to their feet.
  • Newquay has several beaches facing different directions, meaning we can often find suitable conditions depending on tide times, wind direction and wave size.
  • Cornwall has two coasts: north and south. Again, this means we have lots of options to find suitable waves depending on the conditions.
  • The people are friendly and relaxed.
