Our students agree…

There’s no better way to kick-start your day than a decent cup of coffee or to recharge post-surf than with a good bit of grub.

So, here’s the Babel Fish team’s favourite foodie haunts in Newquay.

  1. Lakeside Cafe

This bright and airy cafe sits in the same gardens as our school and overlooks a pretty boating lake. It’s not only its proximity which we all appreciate: these guys are super-friendly, make a mean cup of coffee and tempt us with their awesome pastries and cakes…many of which are gluten free.

Not only that, but Babel Fish students receive exclusive discounts on food and drink from Lakeside whilst they’re studying with us.

2. Gusto

Sure to get your juices jumping, the Gusto Grill and Roast serves up warm and hearty fare in the centre of town. Perfect for a post-surf carb-load -but, this isn’t ordinary fast-food. Uniquely seasoned meats, special sauces, inventive salads and loads of veggie options make these guys local heroes.

And we’re regulars 🙂

3. Choukette Newquay

The only place in town to get some real patisserie. And, boy is it pretty. Just a peek into their shop is to be transported to a rainbow world of macarons and munching. Wishing these guys a well-deserved winter break, we’ll be popping to see them come their return in February. For. All. The. Cake.

4. Pavilion

A heady mix of Cornish coolness, Sri Lankan inspo and hipster London, this little cafe in a repurposed Lifeboat station oozes awesomeness. Opened in 2017, Pavilion’s perky premises and passionate attitude are right up our rue. They even sponsor local surfers: right on, the Pav.

5. The Slope

We love this place…but how could you not? The view, the folk, the vibe, the food.

And it also happens to be on ‘our’ beach – Great Western – where we surf with our students. If you enrol on our cornerstone Surf & Study package, this would be your playground and The Slope your go-to guys for great grub and sunny times.

Hungry yet?

Sometimes that belly rumble can only be sated with a proper Cornish pasty…this one was courtesy of Padstow’s, Chough Bakery. Proper job!
